As a Mozillian, I find it very exciting to be able to interact with all the other Mozillians, specially from the same country, whom you actually get to meet a lot. Being from a such a diverse country, contributors come along in all shapes and sizes and from all the parts of India. Thus, it gets very difficult to keep a track of all those who are actively contributing, or have contributed in the past.
Here comes Mozilla India Leaderboard into picture.
This was initially an idea in the community thread which was hacked upon by Sankha, who also happens to be our friendly neighborhood GSoccer. He prototyped a quick dashboard which was improved upon by Sankha, Soumya and myself and is now hosted on Mozilla India website. Just recently, it has been added to the wiki.mo/Contribute/Dashboard page (thanks to David Boswell).
This leaderboard aims to bring together information on various contributors from India. Right now the list is static and is updated on demand via GitHub pull requests, but we soon plan to move to a much more reliable and automated system such that all (at least most of the) contributors and their information (like bugs fixed, commit level, etc.) from India could be located at put together at a single place for everyone to acknowledge. The sorting in the leaderboard also gamifies the contribution-model, for developers to more actively participate in order to climb up the ladder. Moreover, future plans also incorporate displaying of other forms of contributions, like testing, triaging, support etc. We are also planning to make the leaderboard a service which can be used by any country in the future.
So what are you guys waiting for? If you are from India, and want your name to be on the leaderboard today itself, just send a pull request to the github repository. You just have to properly edit the user.json file and add your details in it. If your name already exists, then aim for the topmost place in the leaderboard and get going!
Special thanks to Soumya for proof reading the post.
